2024 Progreso Latino Fund Grantmaking: Bridging the Skills Gap
In 2024, Progreso Latino Fund provided targeted grants to organizations that address barriers to academic and economic success.
2024 GRANTEES:
City Angels Baseball Academy — $5,000 to support after-school tutoring services to players in the youth baseball organization. City Angels removes economic barriers to participation in travel baseball, engaging Greater New Haven youth in competitive sports as a means of supporting positive character development, community mindedness, and educational aspirations.
Living United CT — $10,000 to support the cost of leasing a space for “Lifeline to Work”, a bilingual workforce and financial literacy training program dedicated to empowering Spanish-speaking, low-income women in the assembly manufacturing industry. Living United provides short-term housing, emergency support for area shelters, job opportunities and referrals to outside services.
Pequeñas Ligas Hispanas de New Haven — $5,000 to support the Roberto Clemente Tribute classroom project which focuses on the power of well-roundedness to overcome barriers to academic and economic success by using the pillars of Roberto Clemente’s legacy to educate, inspire, motivate and skill-build middle and high school students.
Stepping into Prosperity — $5,000 to support the expansion of its online skill-building programs in English and Spanish to community members in need, with a focus on the Latine community. The nonprofit will offer over 150 self-paced programs and courses focusing on various employment sectors. These programs will enable individuals to develop skills in areas such as call center operations, business administration, social media marketing, and AI tools.
