Responding to the Federal Funding Freeze Order
Our commitment to the community.
Dear Friends,
The Trump Administration’s executive order seeking to freeze federal grant, loan and other funding has understandably shaken many in our community, especially those who depend on the essential social services provided by local nonprofit organizations. This threat to services upon which many of our neighbors rely has caused disruption and worry across our community. For now, a federal judge has temporarily blocked the order, and we are waiting to see how the administration will respond.
While we cannot predict how events will unfold, The Foundation will be ready to support our community no matter what happens. It will use the endowed resources at its discretion to respond to emerging community needs. It will continue to honor existing funding commitments to local nonprofits and partners. It will gather information from community members and nonprofits and look for new ways to support our community. It will exercise its role as a hub for local philanthropy, working with donors and other funding partners to mobilize financial resources. And it will remain committed to its vision of creating a community of greater opportunity and equity for everyone in Greater New Haven.
In addition, The Foundation staff will stay abreast of the latest developments. We will be in constant communication with our elected officials, peer foundations and partner associations, and we will share what we learn and provide information on how you can best support our local nonprofits. By staying connected, we will remain strong.
Yours in community,
Karen DuBois-Walton
President and CEO of The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven
