On Jan. 29, 2025, The Community Foundation hosted DataHaven's Mark Abraham for a discussion with President and CEO Karen DuBois-Walton about the 2024 DataHaven Community Wellbeing Survey. The survey includes responses from more than 7,000 live, in-depth interviews with randomly-selected adults in every Connecticut town. The largest local survey of its kind, the Wellbeing Survey provides data on how people feel about their communities and tracks trends on key issues such as community vitality, health equity and family economic security.

What We Heard

  • Financial insecurity is rising, with 40 percent of survey respondents saying they are just getting by or struggling financially, the highest rate recorded in the survey's history.
  • Housing costs are a main source of financial stress. Housing insecurity rose from 7% in 2015 to 14% in 2024.
  • Food insecurity has risen significantly since the end of the child tax credit that was provided during the pandemic. One quarter of all households with children in Greater New Haven are now food insecure as compared to less than 15% during the pandemic.
  • Most residents are happy with where they live. Across all groups, the majority of adults are satisfied with the places they live in Connecticut.
  • People are invested in Connecticut. People with plans for buying a home intend to purchase in the state.
