August is Black Philanthropy Month and The Community Foundation is recognizing and celebrating local giving by philanthropists and community leaders in our region. Black Philanthropy Month (BPM) is an annual global celebration of African-descent giving that aims to strengthen African-American and African-descent giving in all its forms.

The theme for 2024 is “Afro-Futures of Giving."

The Vineyard Project in New Haven

The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven launched The Vineyard Project In New Haven in July 2022 to celebrate the strength and excellence of the Black community.

Phenomenal I Am, a youth empowerment program, is one of the Black-led organizations supported by the Black Futures Fund.

Black Futures Fund

The Black Futures Fund was created by The Community Foundation's Board of Directors to advance racial equity in Greater New Haven and to tackle the structures that contribute to racial disparities in our community. The events of 2020 underscored and revealed the depths of these challenges and the need for a sustained commitment to prioritizing racial equity. LEARN MORE

New Haven Healthy Start

New Haven Healthy Start (NHHS) helps ensure the birth of healthy babies with a continuum of services to pregnant women, recent mothers, fathers and their infants. 

Founded in 1997 as a program of The Community Foundation, NHHS is supported by a federal grant from Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Maternal and Child Health. LEARN MORE

Ilene Saulsbury was a passionate supporter of our community until her death in 2015. Her inspiring legacy lives on in perpetuity through the fund she established at The Community Foundation.

Saulsbury Fund Supports Rising Musicians ›

Robert Saulsbury transferred his father's private foundation to The Community Foundation in 2001. The reason? To ensure the continued growth of the scholarship bearing his father's name. Today, the Curtis M. Saulsbury Scholarship Fund provides young people the opportunity to obtain an education in music.
